Simon knows Franka from their time together at JustWatch, where he led two teams as Head of Infrastructure. Even back then, the two of them often talked about starting their own joint venture. Two years later, Franka approached Simon with the idea for PyleHound—driven by the conviction that AI would make legal work fundamentally more efficient. And now here we are. Simon prefers to work with small and boutique law firms that make pragmatic decisions and want to collaborate on an equal footing.
Simon Frey is co-founder of PyleHound and brings a strong technical entrepreneurial background to the company. He studied computer science at the Technical University of Berlin and began working on the construction and operation of complex software systems under real load conditions early on.
While still a student, Simon worked at JustWatch, first as a working student and later as a site reliability engineer. In the following years, he took on management responsibility and led two teams as Head of Infrastructure. Together, they were responsible for the availability and scaling of a platform with over 40 million monthly active users. This period shaped his commitment to clean architecture, resilient systems, and pragmatic solutions that work even under pressure.
At the same time, Simon worked closely with his long-time colleague Fabian for many years. The two began building and selling websites together while still in school. This early collaboration later led to their own startup, which they built together and successfully sold. Their long-standing collaboration is characterized by a high level of technical depth, mutual trust, and the ability to quickly turn ideas into functioning products.
Simon brings this experience to PyleHound today—especially at the interface between product, technology, and market. He understands how to translate complex technical possibilities into concrete use cases and recognize early on where technology creates real added value. Especially in the AI environment, it is important to him to distinguish between reliable solutions and mere promises.
Simon, Franka Becker, and Fabian Rittmeier work closely together in the founding team. Franka brings legal precision and structure to the table, Fabian, as CTO, designs the product and ensures technical excellence, while Simon contributes his strength in communication. This interplay enables fast learning cycles, pragmatic solutions, and a balance between speed, quality, and structure—the working method that characterizes PyleHound.
